Polyakov soldering and second order frames : the role of the Cartan connection
نویسندگان
چکیده
The so-called ‘soldering’ procedure performed by A.M. Polyakov in [1] for a SL(2,R)gauge theory is geometrically explained in terms of a Cartan connection on second order frames of the projective space RP. The relationship between a Cartan connection and the usual (Ehresmann) connection on a principal bundle allows to gain an appropriate insight into the derivation of the genuine ‘diffeomorphisms out of gauge transformations’ given by Polyakov himself. PERFORMANCE-BASED CONNECTION TOPOLOGY OPTIMIZATION OF UNBRACED AND X-BRACED STEEL FRAMES
The present study sets out to integrate the performance-based seismic design approach with the connection topology optimization method. Performance-based connection topology optimization concept aims to simultaneously optimize the size of members and the type of connections with respect to the framework of performance-based seismic design. This new optimization concept is carried out for unbrac...
متن کاملStatic and dynamic nonlinear analysis of steel frame with semi-rigid connections
One of the important issues in the study of steel frames is to find a suitable formulation for semi-rigid connections. In this paper, the explicit stiffness matrix for a two-dimensional beam-column element having end-flexibilities is derived. The effects of the lateral uniformly distributed load on the deflection are considered. Both tensile and compressive axial loads are also taken into accou...

Today connections are playing an important role in the steel frames subjected to lateral seismic loading. The steel extended end-plate moment connection can play an important role in the steel frame when subjected to seismic loadings. In the past, this type of connection has been under investigation mainly when it was subjected to monotonic loading. After major recent earthquakes and failure of...
متن کاملPERFORMANCE BASED DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF STEEL MOMENT RESISTING FRAMES INCORPORATING SEISMIC DEMAND AND CONNECTION PARAMETERS UNCERTAINTIES
One of the most important problems discussed recently in structural engineering is the structural reliability analysis considering uncertainties. To have an efficient optimization process for designing a safe structure, firstly it is required to study the effects of uncertainties on the seismic performance of structure and then incorporate these effects on the optimization process. In this stud...
متن کاملCovariant Field Theory on Frame Bundles of Fibered Manifolds †
We show that covariant field theory for sections of π : E → M lifts in a natural way to the bundle of vertically adapted linear frames LπE. Our analysis is based on the fact that LπE is a principal fiber bundle over the bundle of 1-jets J1π. On LπE the canonical soldering 1-forms play the role of the contact structure of J1π. A lifted Lagrangian L:LπE → R is used to construct modified soldering...
